This is an original Oil painting on a cradled wood panel of a Red-Winged Blackbird. It comes framed.
The Red-Winged Blackbird is a familiar sight; they are found all over the continent. But their characteristics are uncommonly beautiful.
The male Red-Winged Blackbird stakes his claim to a prime patch of marsh or wetland and displays the yellow and red epaulets on his shoulders for all to see. The stark contrast of bright colors against his glossy black and iridescent body makes him hard to miss. He perches on the tallest cattail, tree, or shrub and sings his three-syllable song.
In the springtime, as I hike along marshes or otherwise boggy places, I can be assured to hear and see this magnificent bird, and it reminds me that there is a rhythm to life and the dependable changing of the seasons.
The next time you are out on a spring day along the shore of a freshwater place, take a moment to listen for and observe this bird and appreciate the art that our world shares with us if we just take time to look.
